PROFESSOR SULAIMAN UNTAD WINS VARIOUS RESEARCH GRANTS RELATED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF HERBAL MEDICINE

Research grants are financial assistance provided to individuals or institutions to support research activities. These funds can come from various sources, like the government, non-governmental organization, company, or even individuals. The main aim of research grants is to encourage innovation, development of science, and problem solving in various fields.

Prof. Apt. Muhammad Sulaiman Zubair, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. one of the FMIPA lecturers in the Pharmacy study program at Tadulako University, made another achievement by successfully winning a number of research grants. These grants come from various sources, both internal Untad and external such as the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN), Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Ministry of Education and Culture).

In a short interview, Professor Sulaiman expressed his gratitude for this achievement. “As a lecturer and researcher, I feel happy because I can make a contribution to the institution” he said.

The research grant obtained by Professor Sulaiman will be used to fund various research projects. The amount of funds received varies depending on the type of grant. The successful research grant, Prof. Sulaiman got one of them:

  1. Fundamental Research – Regular, 2024, Combination of Standardized Extracts of Benalu Batu Herbs (B. medicinal) and Moringa Leaves (M. oleifera): SNEDDS formulation, Immunomodulatory Mechanisms and Toxicity (Ministry of Education and Culture)
  2. Strategic Research Collaboration, 2024, Potential of Antidiabetic Drugs and Exploration of Mechanisms of Action from Sulawesi Ethnopharmaca: Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking Studies (Ministry of Education and Culture)
  3. Advanced Indonesian Innovation Research-BRIN, 2023, DEVELOPMENT OF TARGET-BASED ANTICANCER DRUGS FROM A COMBINATION OF BATU BENALU SAPONIN FRACTIONS (Medicinal Begonia) AND THE FLAVONOID FRACTION OF MORINGA LEAVES (Moringa oleifera): STUDY OF NANOEMULSION FORMULATIONS AND EXPLORATION OF MOLECULAR MECHANISMS (BRIN)
  4. 4. Productive Innovation-UNTAD, 2024, INNOVATION OF 'DEKA ESTE®' HERBAL TEA FOR INCOME GENERATING UNTAD: PILOT SCALE PRODUCTION AND ANTIDIABETES TESTING (UNTAD)
  5. Fundamental Research – Regular, Member, 2024, Gummy jelly formulation study, Crackers and Moringa Leaf Cereal Granules (M. oleifera) with Low-temperature Treatment as Functional Stunting Food (Ministry of Education and Culture)
  6. PRPB-LPPD, 2024, Snedds Preparation Formulation of Immunostimulant Drug From a Combination of Batu Mistletoe Extract and Moringa Leaves: From Pilot to Industry Scale (LPDP)

To reduce people's dependence on synthetic chemical drugs and improve people's quality of life through utilizing Indonesia's natural wealth. Professor Sulaiman is currently focusing on research in the field of developing herbal medicines and functional foods. It is hoped that the results of the research will make a significant contribution to the development of the herbal pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia and increase the competitiveness of Indonesian herbal products in the global market as well as being beneficial to the wider community..

We hope that Professor Sulaiman's success can be an inspiration for young researchers to continue to innovate and work. Young researchers have a very important role in advancing science in Indonesia. With the same spirit as Professor Sulaiman, It is hoped that more and more young researchers will be able to produce innovative works that are beneficial to society.
